Original Ptolomeo is Opinion Ciatti's collection of revolutionary bookcases awarded with the Compasso d'Oro in 2004. Free-standing, innovative and with an immediate aesthetic impact, this bookcase is conceived on the concept of subtracting one's own form to give importance to the books contained . Ptolomeo is a steel column with shelves that disappear once filled with the volumes. The final visual result is a stack of books that seem to hold up on their own. Today Ptolomeo is a cult design object, with the base signed by the designer, available in various finishes and sizes. Ptolomeo owes its name to the first historical figure Ptolemy I Soter who built the Royal Library of Alexandria in Egypt.
